I have always been interested in the Titanic because of my grandfather. His father and ancestors were very poor and had worked as "Agricultural Laborers" in England for generations. He decided that was NOT the life for him, so he moved to London when he was 15. After working hard for years, he finally become the valet of several different rich people, traveling and living in Paris, Rome, Gibraltar, and other parts of Europe.
He was supposed to sail to America on the Titanic. After the ocean liner's crash, his mother never heard from him and presumed he was dead. He wrote to her after he immigrated to America (on a different ship), but she never received his letters. After he had lived in America for 30 years, had married, and had a son, he finally regained contact with his mother. Up to that point, she still thought he had died on the Titanic!
